Workshop B - Thursday 26th July, 2012, 5:00pm – 8:00pm
Offshore risk management
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Education development is now a top priority for many of Australia’s neighbouring nations with increasing skills shortages. However, despite considerable opportunity, the risks are high.

TEQSA’s newly released regulatory risk framework identifies offshore delivery as a ‘major’ risk and one which should be given due diligence during institution risk- assessments.

This workshop will explore ways of protecting your institution against risk and will address:

  • A recent case study examining how a university damaged their reputation;
  • What are the implications of poor partnership selection and management?
  • Mitigation of risks associated with offshore delivery;
  • How to overcome cultural differences and expectations to ensure a partnership is managed effectively;
  • Which risks are worth taking; and,
  • How to use transnational education to enhance your institution’s offshore reputation

Workshop A - Tuesday 24th July, 2012, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
How to identify new markets & select partners
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Expanding offshore (‘Transnational’) delivery offers the
opportunity to grow an institutional international education scope and develop prosperous cross border partnerships. The tertiary education sector is an expanding area in many developing regions, with strong policy support from many local governments, and one which Australian institutions should not be afraid to embrace with due care. Identifying emerging regions of opportunity, selecting the ‘right’ partners and choosing appropriate models of delivery are critical to establishing and maintaining successful offshore delivery.

This workshop will explore:

  • Strategies to identify and evaluate new regions of opportunity in a time of evolving education demand in developing nations
  • Key cultural, economic and political factors which may impact upon business development and tools to ensure sustainable development
  • How to align partnership selection, and delivery model, with the goals of your institution and the foreign institution.
  • Techniques and issues in effective engagement with new partners
  • How to identify low versus high risk partnership models – how will you meet your quality standards?
